2016 was an interesting year. It is when I began composing on my iPod Touch in GarageBand. Really, I had no love for the music itself. I was entirely cynical. I only wanted some crappy music to put as soundtracks to my equally crappy YouTube videos. However, I was only 13. My love for the art would eventually blossom, like a Passion Flower.
May 5th, 2016 - Dedication to Santos Campos
This piece was written as a dedication to my late grandfather, Santos. However, it's unfortunate that it sucks. The intention was genuine, but the execution was unfortunate. |
May 13th, 2016 - The Car Chase Another terrible piece. It was created using default settings in GarageBand on my old iPod Touch. |
May 14th, 2016 - The Road Trip
First attempt at an original melody. Basically, The Car Chase V2. |
May 14th, 2016 - Dark Matter
Just chords. No melody, no nothing. Also, chords were presets, which explains the aimless direction of the piece. |
May 19th, 2016 - The Crazy Guest
Written for my Uncle Celso. Still just chords, but piano this time. |
May 29th, 2016 - The Quirky Kid
Sucks. At least it has a melody, though. |
July 23rd, 2016 - Departure Theme
Technically my first film score. It also is terrible, but I put in far more effort than previous attempts. |
October 20th, 2016 - THE HAUNTED HOUSE JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!
Better than usual. |
October 20th, 2016 - Sacrifice.
Ah, my powers are multiplying! However, 4*0=0. This was my first attempt at a trilogy of pieces, something which would be fully realized in Three (2020). |
October 20th, 2016 - Before the Ship Wreak
Second of the trilogy. Really don't know what I was going for. |
October 22nd, 2016 - The Ship Wreak
Written to be somewhat pensive, then rousing (?). It then bursts into a dissonant nightmare which involves pre-written MIDI files. |
November 17th, 2016 - The Day Begins
Ah, the pre-written MIDI strikes again. There are some cool harmonies here, but I can't take credit for them. |
November 17th, 2016 - INTENSE MOVIE SCENE
Yes, very intense. I appreciate the lack of PRE-WRITTEN MIDI LOOPS! This was when I realized I liked downward motion in the Bass Clef. Indeed, these downward motions are quite intense! |
November 17th, 2016 - Last Chance for Earth
I suppose I decided that rhythm was too hard to do organically. I likely discovered the arpeggiator and didn't understand the concept of "restraint." |
November 18th, 2016 - Ominous Loop
Little did I know, the feeling conveyed in this piece would be so visceral. Simplicity is key here. However, the image is what strikes me. In fact, this is the parking lot at my local District Annex building. My dad worked there for a short time, before being elected County Judge, an administrative role. This is the parking lot in which the audience was evacuated to after a dummy bomb was found outside of my dad's County Judge office. Indeed, he had petitioned that an elected official be removed from office due to neglect in statutory duties. Fortunately, the individual was found guilty of gross negligence, yet remained in office for the remainder of their term. There is speculation as to the culprit, but it was promptly (and suspiciously) shrugged off. I'm getting ahead of myself. |
December 10th, 2016 - Lucia's Triumph
Written for my little sister, this piece is a fall from grace (creatively). It uses pre-written MIDI loops, like there's no tomorrow. However, it does have an original melody. |
December 10th, 2016 - Find Yourself
An oddly dark piece, considering the name. However, this piece is an anomaly. The very end contains one of the downward motions which has stuck with me to this day. This was also the piece which scored me Cyber Attack. It was the last day of the Fall Semester at OLGC co-op. Someone had passed out some flyers for a "feature film" some local homeschoolers were making. At this point, I had been composing for more than half a year. For whatever reason, I thought "I should do this thing I am totally unprepared for." So I did. As I tapped the Send button on my iPod Touch mail app, my friend looked over my shoulder, shaking his head. It was a bad idea, and he knew it. |
December 10th, 2016 - Build Up To Something Awesome
Apparently I became incredibly lazy. Not much else to say. Very messy, but not the worst ideas(?). I apparently had no intention to pay-off the awesome thing I'd built up. |
